Akira Toriyama, the creator of Japan’s wildly popular “Dragon Ball” manga and anime series, has passed away at age 68, his studio team announced Friday.
“We are deeply saddened to inform you that manga creator Akira Toriyama passed away on March 1st due to a severe Subdural hematoma,” said a message posted on the official X account of the “Dragon Ball” franchise.
Dragon Ball became immensely popular worldwide; the comic series spawned animated cartoons and films.

On March 1st, Akira Toriyama died, with only his family and a select few friends attending his funeral, the Dragon Ball website said.
“He still had many achievements ahead of him. However, he left many manga titles and works of art to the world,” his studio expressed.
“We hope that Akira Toriyama’s unique creations will be cherished by everyone for years to come,” they added.
