Lasith Embuldeniya takes 9-fer; NCC and Tamil Union register wins

Two games were worked off today (16th),  the third day of the SLC Major League Tier ‘A’ Tournament 2019/20, at Maggona and Katunayake. Tamil Union Cricket Club defeated Badureliya Cricket Club while NCC registered an innings victory over Saracens Sports Club. 

Badureliya Cricket Club vs Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club 

Tamil Union Cricket Club registered a 7-wicket win over Badureliya Cricket Club in their Group B encounter, which ended today at Air Force Grounds in Katunayake. After being 56 runs for 5 wickets overnight, Badureliya Cricket Club managed to add only 51 runs more to the total as they were bowled out for just 107 runs in 37.4 overs, setting an easy target of 112 runs for Tamil Union.

Damith Perera was the only significant contributor with the bat as he made 39 runs for Badureliya Cricket Club. Sri Lanka’s premier test fast bowler Suranga Lakmal was the pick of the bowlers for Tamil Union as he managed to take 4 scalps for 30 runs.

In addition to that, national capped off-spinner Dhananjaya De Silva (3/10) and left-arm seamer Isuru Udana (2/45) shone with the ball, sharing 5 wickets among them. Tamil Union Cricket Club chased down the target with ease with 7 wickets in hand. The left-handed batsman Tharanga Paranavithana stroked an unbeaten 36 runs while Dhananjaya De Silva chipped in with 31 runs.

Nondescripts Cricket Club vs Saracens Sports Club  

Nondescripts Cricket Club registered a comprehensive innings win over Saracens Sports Club in their Group B encounter, which ended today at Surrey Village Grounds in Maggona. After being 84 runs for 3 wickets overnight, Saracens Sports Club managed to add only 103 runs for the remaining 7 wickets as they were bowled out for 187 runs in 45.4 overs.

The left-hander Milinda Siriwardana top-scored with a knock of 62 runs for Saracens Sports Club. Sri Lanka’s premier spinner in test cricket Lasith Embuldeniya showed his skills with the ball, picking up 9 wickets for 86 runs.
